A beautifully sunny day that was completely still. Gorgeous views from the climbing over the Cheshire plaines. A trip to Maiden Castle near Bickerton gave plenty to go at.

Once the crag was located, a pleasant spot just off the sandstone trail. A few damp spots were evident but I managed to work my way through most of the problems there.

With top outs a little bit crap (loose) I only elected to top out on a select few routes. Some of the most fun problems for the day included ‘Go Ape, 5b’; Rampart Wall, 5b’ and ‘Iron age arete, 4c’

After several hours, as if my fingers hadn’t had enough I stopped at Pex en route home.

Not much joy on the fingery routes in less than ideal conditions but I managed to get up a few of the easier problems which required a very dirty top out: ’Too bold for Steve Boote, 5c’; Set Square, 5a’; ‘Monkey grip, 5b’ and ‘Bushy tale, 5b’. Attempts were also made on ‘Green Streaks, 5b’; ‘Set square direct, 5c’; ‘Tequila sunrise, 6a’ and ‘Harvey wallbanger, 5c’
